What is Mardi Gras: Mardi Gras is French for “Fat Tuesday” which is referring to the last night of eating before the ritual fasting of the Lenten season, which begins on Ash Wednesday. In New Orleans, Mardi Gras is an extravagant celebration where locals and visitors come together to enjoy parades and celebrations of all kinds with family and friends. Mardi Gras Dates: Traditional New Orleans Mardi Gras parades begin January 19th and will pause January 28th – February 5th for Super Bowl XLVII in New Orleans. Mardi Gras parades will resume as normal February 6th– 12th.
