Go 4th on the River

Want a front-row seat to an awe-inspiring fireworks display? How about one that takes place over the majestic Mississippi River? Then join us for Go 4th on the River, an annual 4th of July fireworks show that usually lasts 15-20 minutes, taking place Monday, July 4th, at 9:00pm. Finding a spot to watch isn’t hard. In fact, you can view the show from either side of the river, either from Woldenberg Park, just steps from our hotel on the French Quarter side, or from the levee in Algiers Point. (Catch the ferry to Algiers Point at the nearby terminal, located at the base of Canal Street.)

ESSENCE Fest

ESSENCE Fest serves as the nation’s premiere showcase for African American musical talent, and this year’s lineup is no exception, featuring the likes of Mariah Carey, Puff Daddy, Maxwell, Faith Evans, Kendrick Lamar and many more. This popular annual event takes place in downtown New Orleans at the Mercedez-Benz Superdome, July 1-3, 2016. ESSENCE Fest also features world-renowned speakers on the topics of empowerment and the African American experience. Notable speakers for 2016 include supermodel Tyra Banks and ballerina Misty Copeland. The festival annually brings in tens of thousands of visitors to New Orleans, making it an unforgettable way to spend your 4th of July weekend in New Orleans!

Go Patriotic in Mid-City

Want to celebrate the Fourth like the locals do? The beautiful Mid-City neighborhood offers two ways to celebrate the Independence Day holiday. New Orleans City Park hosts a Happy 3rd of July event on Sunday, July 3, 2016 from 7:15 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. which will feature performances by the Marine Corps Band and a fireworks show. There will be snowballs, beer, wine and other concessions available for purchase, or bring your own picnic to this free event.

On Monday, July 4th, get a taste of Mardi Gras in the middle of summer as The Krewe of Kolossos hosts their fifth annual July 4th Flotilla. Boats decorated in red, white and blue will be joined by costumed revelers on the banks of Bayou St. John, starting at 5:00 p.m. and lasting until sunset.

Either event is easily accessible from our hotel via the Canal Street streetcar. Check with our concierge for detailed directions before heading out.
