Get ready to eat, drink, and be merry with one of New Orleans most treasured traditions: Reveillon.
The Reveillon dinner is a Creole custom that dates back to the early 19th century. After fasting on Christmas Eve, Reveillon was a big meal enjoyed when the family returned from midnight mass.
Today, Reveillon continues with a modern twist. It takes place in more than 50 New Orleans restaurants with special, multi-course, prix-fixe Reveillon menus. And the tradition is celebrated throughout the month of December – with meals served at more reasonable dinner hours.
Here are five of our favorites, all conveniently located within walking distance of our French Quarter hotel!
Criollo
$75 per person; 214 Royal Street; (504) 681-4444
Creating a meal from Creole tradition is a task well-suited for a restaurant whose name literally means “Creole” in Spanish.
Located inside our magnificent sister property, Hotel Monteleone, Criollo’s seasonal Reveillon menu features five decadent courses.
Take your pick from a range of options like Tuna Carpaccio, Rabbit with Sweet Breads, Roasted Goose with Spiced Pears, and a holiday dessert favorite: Bûche de Noël with coffee and vanilla genoise and cocoa butter cream.
Antoine’s
$49 per person; 713 Saint Louis Street; (504) 581-4422
As America’s oldest family-run restaurant, Antoine’s is the pinnacle of NOLA hospitality. And it prides itself on maintaining tradition and celebrating French Creole cuisine.
During the holidays, their famous menu gets an upgrade with Reveillon dishes like the Noël Salad, Alligator Bisque, and a Louisiana drum fillet stuffed with shrimp and eggplant. And their festive eggnog bread pudding is a perfect finishing touch.
Broussard’s
$49 per person; 819 Conti Street; (504) 581-3866
Established in 1920, Broussard’s is known for adding modern flavors to traditional Creole cuisines.
This beautiful restaurant features elegant dining rooms that overlook a lush, tropical courtyard. And during Reveillon, it’s all perfectly dressed for the season.
You can start your Reveillon dinner off with Duck Rillettes and a Roasted Beet Salad. Their Pan-Fried Trout is an enchanting third course, and you can go wrong with their Tarte å la Bouille for dessert.
Arnaud’s
$49 per person; 813 Bienville Street; (504) 523-5433
With a storied history that is synonymous with New Orleans dining, Arnaud’s fills their Reveillon menu with classic Creole cuisine.
Start with an amuse bouche of Daube glacé before you dig into their Crawfish Cake with Hot Mustard Cream as a first course. Their Creole Onion Soup offers an authentic taste of NOLA flavor, and their Coquilles St. Jacques is an obvious entree choice made with seared Sea Scallops, Shiitake mushrooms, and whipped potatoes.
Dickie Brennan’s Steakhouse
$65 per person; 716 Iberville Street; (504) 522-2467
While this restaurant is known for their world-class steaks, the Reveillon menu offers a variety of New Orleans flavors.
Their prix-fixe menu features Wild Hare and Andouille Gumbo and Cornbread stuffed Quail for the first two courses, followed by Pralines Parfait with house-made pralines. And an irish coffee is the perfect finishing touch to your elegantly simple feast.
